Australian, Canadian, and New Zealand Studies Network (ACNZSN) Newsletter – 13/12/23

Dear All,

Please find below the latest news, opportunities, and publications in Australian, Canadian, and Aotearoa New Zealand Studies 🙂

News:

Since the last newsletter the War on Gaza has sadly got even worse…ACNZSN condemns the violations of international law and international humanitarian law that have taken place and are still occurring. Namely the absolute lack of adherence to the principles of distinction and proportionality. ACNZSN also condemns the numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity that have been committed and continue to take place in the Gaza Strip. These include the indiscriminate bombing of civilians, forced displacement, the collective punishment of a whole people through a siege of all the basic essentials of life, forced starvation, the bombing of hospitals, schools, shelters, and places of worship. The list could sadly go on and on…ACNZSN wholeheartedly supports the most recent resolution by the United Nations General Assembly (reflecting the vast majority of international opinion) demanding an immediate ceasefire and the release of captives. ACNZSN also calls for the end of attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem and the numerous human rights violations taking place there, the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands, and the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The new Book Reviews Editor of JACANZS, Dr. Jatinder Mann is looking for reviewers of the following books. Canadian legal scholars especially take note as the list contains all the titles in the ‘Understanding Canada’ series recently published by Irwin Law. If you are interested in reviewing any of the books please contact Jatinder at jacanzsbookreviews@gmail.com.

The Australian Studies Institute at the Australian National University is a proud partner of four new Australian Broadcasting Corporation TV Series: Makers of Modern Australia, Australia After War, Yakka: Australia at Work, and Believing in Australia.

Social Sciences, an open access, peer-reviewed journal has just launched a call for papers for a special edition in Canadian Studies guest edited by Christina Keppie.
