News

The Book Reviews Editor of ACNZSN’s Journal of Australian, Canadian, and Aotearoa New Zealand Studies, Ms. Emily Cornish is looking for reviewers for a list of books for the journal. If you are interested in reviewing any of the titles please contact Emily at jacanzsbookreviews@gmail.com 🙂

In light of the proposed disastrous cuts at several universities in Aotearoa New Zealand, targeted in particular at their Humanities programmes, an Open Letter has been written to the Tertiary Education Commission and the Minister of Education in the country to call on them to step in and provide extra funding to the institutions in question. Please consider giving your support to these efforts by adding your signature here.

The Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies at Te Heranga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand is co-hosting a wonderful symposium on ‘Katherine Mansfield – Last things and Legacies’ on 7-8 July 2023. You can register to attend here.

Richard S. Hill and Steven Loveridge will be launching their excellent new book: Secret History: State Surveillance in New Zealand, 1900–1958 (Auckland: Auckland University Press, 2023) on 13 July 2023 at 6.00pm (NZST) at Unity Books, Willis Street, Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Professor Joanna Kidman recently wrote an extremely engaging in-depth review of Bain Attwood’s ‘A Bloody Difficult Subject’: Ruth Ross, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Making of History.
